The Black Heart: Homebrew Goes Awesome

One of the limitations of the homebrew gaming scene is its lack of original style. Even commercial games copy gameplay from each other, but you will find that it is the differences in their styles that makes or brakes another clone. The homebrew 2d fighting game, “The Black Heart” certainly has broken down the style barrier with its truly awesome game play and unique art, that puts even the best of 2d fighting games to shame.

“The Black Heart” was released on Halloween of 2009 and was created by Andrés Borghi. With the help from users in the M.U.G.E.N community, Borghi coded the game on the M.U.G.E.N 2D fighting game engine and created the character art  . Borghi is a also an independent filmmaker and said that the game was inspired by many games and films in the horror genre, including “Splatterhouse” and “Evil Dead.”

The Story:

There is another world apart from ours. A world that was once beautiful but now is a hostile place ruined by war and hate. A blood stained world…

Humans have ignored the existence of this other world because their destinies have never been bound to it…

But that is about to change since the king and creator of the other world has been murdered. His strength and will had disappeared as the time passed, turning him into and old and defenseless being.

However, that didn’t change the fact that within him the incredible power that allowed him to create that other world still existed. Because of that he was attacked by an entity called Final: A powerful creature that emerged from the infinite chaos that exists in the space between both worlds. In a single attack he ripped the king’s heart and ran away with it to the depths of chaos.

It is said that the one that succeeds at freeing the power within the heart will be given an extraordinary strength; a power that could end all that exists if it falls into the wrong hands.

GamePlay:

The gameplay rivals that of other 2d fighting games like ‘Street Fighter 2″ or “King of Fighters” If you are new to this genre of games that’s fine, because the game is fun for new people, while the more experienced players will have a ball mastering all the special moves and timing. Oh, and did I tell you that it is a two player game?
