The Origin of Halloween.

It may surprise some people that Halloween has nothing to do with Christianity or the commercialism of candy and costumes that it has become. Halloween was originally a Celtic pagan holiday called Samhain.
Samhain was a feast that signified the end of the the warm half of the year and the beginning of the cold. They believed that on Samhain or Halloween that the barrier between our world and the next world was very thin. They believed that this made it possible for your dead ancestors to walk around our world and communicate with us. The Celts would leave doors and windows unlocked so the dead could enter.
It is no accident that All Hallows Eve falls on the same day as Samhain. Most Christian holidays fall on pagan holidays. This made it easier to convert the pagans to Christianity.
Now that you know, you might want to take a closer look at that ghost at your door. It might be your great grandmother and not a trick or treater.
